Lately, nothing seems to stop the Orange High School varsity football team.
Not even a rare October snowstorm.
Playing under a snowstorm that dumped several inches, the Tornadoes romped to a 27-2 victory over a slumping Glen Ridge team last Saturday at Hurrell Field in Glen Ridge.
It marked the Tornadoes’ fifth straight victory to improve their record to 6-2.
Glen Ridge lost its fifth straight to fall to 3-5.
OHS senior running back Jayquan Watson ran roughshod despite the slippery conditions, gaining a whopping 248 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries for an average of 16.5 yards per carry.
Watson opened the scoring on a 30-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Senior Kassan Messiah scored on the ensuing conversion run.
Watson scored on a 45-yard run in the second quarter. Marquiso Jean kicked the subsequent point-after. Glen Ridge recorded a safety in the quarter as the Tornadoes took a 15-2 halftime lead.
Watson ran for a 10-yard run in the third quarter and junior receiver Jamar Summers had a 55-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter.
Summers finished with 112 yards on three carries.
Messiah, as a linebacker, led the Tornadoes with 10 tackles. Watson also contributed on defense with eight tackles and one caused fumble from his linebacker spot. Senior linebacker Michael White added seven tackles for OHS.
The Tornadoes will host Cedar Creek tomorrow at 7 p.m. OHS will then get ready for the state North Jersey Section 2, Group 2 playoffs that begin Nov. 11-12.
