OHS boys' hoops fall to East Orange Campus in ECT

Senior guard Muhamadou Kaba had 24 points, 10 rebounds and five steal, and senior point guard Tyrone Kornegay posted 21 points, four assists and five steals to boost the eighth-seeded East Orange Campus High School boys’ varsity basketball team to a 70-56 win over No. 25 seed Orange in the preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament on Jan. 30 at EOCHS.
Junior 6-foot-7 power forward Mario Moody also had three points and 10 blocks for the Jaguars, who led 24-11 at the end of the first quarter, and 40-20 at halftime. Senior forwards Mark Chang and Terrell Whittle each had eight points for the Jaguars, who improved to 9-6.
Lance Rhoden had 18 points and Kassan Messiah had 10 points for the Tornadoes. Cornelius Wilson had eight points and Ruben Narcisse added seven points for OHS.
The Jaguars will host No. 9 seed Columbia in the first round on Feb. 6. EOCHS and Columbia split the first two Super Essex Conference meetings.
In previous action, Kornegay had 14 points and Whittle added 12 points for the Jaguars in a 58-51 loss to Irvington on Jan. 26 in Irvington. Chang had eight points, and Kaba and Moody each had four points. Irvington outscored the Jaguars, 19-11, in the second quarter to take a 30-21 halftime lead.
Moody had 18 points and Kaba added 14 points as the Jaguars bounced back with a 59-48 home win over Montclair on Jan. 28. Chang had nine points; senior forward Jashed Gaskins contributed eight points and senior guard Rashod Isaac netted seven points for the Jaguars, who outscored Montclair, 17-10, in the second quarter, and 14-9, in the third quarter for a 44-31 lead.
Rhoden had a team-high 18 points and Ryan Lingham added eight points in the Tornadoes’ 50-38 home loss to West Orange on Jan. 26. Rhoden made three 3-pointers. Narcisse also had five points.
Rhoden led all scorers with 22 points in the 54-44 loss to University on Jan. 28 in Newark. Mikal Tourgutte scored six points and Messiah had five points for OHS.
