Khalid Muhammad scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Adam Maduro had 19 points and 13 rebounds to rally the Orange High School boys' varsity basketball team to a 66-63 win over Union City in the consolation game in the Union City Tournament on Friday Dec. 30.
The Tornadoes trailed 54-40 before outscoring Union City, 26-9, in the fourth quarter to win. Ramon Mustapha had eight points, Kassan Messiah added six points and Javanti Archer chipped in three points for the Tornadoes, who improved to 4-2.
Muhammad led all scorers with 26 points and had 11 rebounds and Maduro posted 16 points and 12 rebounds to power the Tornadoes to an 83-57 win over Bayonne in the opening round on Tuesday Dec. 27 in Union City.
The Tornadoes jumped out to a 27-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Tevon Bennett had 10 points, Louis Williams added seven points and Cornelius Wilson contributed four points and 10 assists for OHS. Keshawn Alexander and Mustapha each had four points in the win.
Muhammad scored a game-high 24 points in the 74-49 loss to Elizabeth on Thursday Dec. 29 in the semifinals in Union City. Elizabeth took a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and increased it to 34-20 at halftime. Elizabeth outscored OHS, 25-15, in the fourth quarter. Mustapha had eight points and Maduro and Messiah each had five points.
