Orange Transcript Transcript becomes RECORD-TRANSCRIPT

The East Orange Record and Orange Transcript have been combined to form a new newspaper, the Record-Transcript. All current subscribers will receive the Record-Transcript in their mailboxes for the issue of Jan. 19, and the new paper also will be available on the newsstands that day.

High School Sports OHS girls' hoop team beats Bloomfield

Shereeka Russell had 19 points and Aquiyah Williams had 18 points, six steals, five assists and four rebounds to rally the Orange High School girls' varsity basketball team to a 44-36 home win over Bloomfield on Saturday Jan. 7 in Super Essex Conference-Colonial Division play.

Orange Transcript City’s visual history sought

Tony Monica, known in Orange for his videos and still photographs of the city’s history, is presenting a gathering of Orange residents, past and present, on Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. at the YWCA, 395 Main St.

In a statement, Monica urged planned attendees to bring their memorabilia of Orange history. He added they will be able to reconnect with old friends and neighbors while they enjoy food, a slide show, still photos and videos.

High School Sports OHS boys' hoop team beats Snyder

Adam Maduro scored 24 ponts and Khalid Muhammad had 19 points to spark the Orange High School boys' varsity basketball team to a 64-58 win over Snyder last Saturday Jan. 7 in Jersey City.

With the non-conference win, the Tornadoes snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 5-4.

Cornelius Wilson also had 12 points, all on free throws, for OHS, which also received four points each from Keyshawn Alexander and Kassan Messiah.

Khalid Muhammad scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Adam Maduro had 19 points and 13 rebounds to rally the Orange High School boys' varsity basketball team to a 66-63 win over Union City in the consolation game in the Union City Tournament on Friday Dec. 30.

Orange Transcript Councilman proposes crime 'red zones'

At Large Councilman Rayfield Morton is seeing red and it’s not in anger.

In the wake of the mayoral decision to re-deploy police personnel to “hot spots” for crime in the city, Morton wants the City Council to pass a ordinance he said would combat drug use and sales, prostitution, illegal weapons possession and gun violence, and “other criminal acts.”

High School Sports OHS boys' hoop team improves to 2-0

The Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team defeated West Orange and Millburn to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Senior guard Khalid Muhammad scored 30 points, including making six 3-pointers, and senior forward Adam Maduro added 19 points in the 57-50 win at West Orange last Friday Dec. 16.

Orange Transcript Feds" medical facility involved in kickbacks

ORANGE - Thirteen New Jersey doctors and a nurse practitioner were arrested Tuesday and charged in what federal prosecutors called a cash-for-tests referral scheme that involved a medical facility in Orange.

More than 60 agents from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services arrested the medical personnel Tuesday morning, said U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman. They were scheduled to appear before a federal judge Tuesday afternoon.
