The East Orange Record and Orange Transcript have been combined to form a new newspaper, the Record-Transcript. All current subscribers will receive the Record-Transcript in their mailboxes for the issue of Jan. 19, and the new paper also will be available on the newsstands that day.
Our coverage of both towns will not be affected by the change. All contact telephone numbers and e-mail addresses will remain the same. The editorial staff will be unchanged.

At Large Councilman Rayfield Morton is seeing red and it’s not in anger.
In the wake of the mayoral decision to re-deploy police personnel to “hot spots” for crime in the city, Morton wants the City Council to pass a ordinance he said would combat drug use and sales, prostitution, illegal weapons possession and gun violence, and “other criminal acts.”
Morton said his proposed “red zone” system is designed to combat crime by preventing it…

ORANGE - Thirteen New Jersey doctors and a nurse practitioner were arrested Tuesday and charged in what federal prosecutors called a cash-for-tests referral scheme that involved a medical facility in Orange.

I also hope Orange residents know they are about to lose an important historic site with the closing of the First Presbyterian Church. It would make a great museum for the Oranges, but it will probably just be bulldozed into oblivion.
The article is very revealing, both for the information it contains, but more so for the information that it conspicuously leaves out.
Among those planners, organizers and supporters we are sending our local firefighters and residents to meet are:
Communist Party USA (CPUSA), Democratic Socialists of America, Committee of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, Chicago Democratic Socialists of America, New York City Democratic Socialists of America, International Socialist Organization, Detroit Democratic Socialists of America. I just wonder if the 45 local residents who are traveling on that AFL-CIO sponsored bus know with whom they will be mingling at this picnic in DC. Bring your cameras. Take pictures. This is going to be an event you will want to show your children and grand children and attempt to explain your involvement.
And please don't take my word for it. See for yourselves at the organizing Web site: http://www.onenationworkingtogether.org/partners
Look at the list on the right of the Web page for more surprises.
Ask yourself: Am I one of them? Do I believe what they believe?
If you were one of those who took the ALF-CIO's bus to DC and attended the rally, were you proud to be there? Were you among friends or among comrades?
